Laser Ablation To Remove Varicose Veins

What is laser ablation and is it right for you?

Varicose veins are a common problem. If you have these large, gnarled veins on your legs then you know that they can impact your health, everyday activities, and confidence. Many people turn to our Fort Worth, TX, vascular surgeon Dr. Ramesh Paladugu and board-certified anesthesiologist Dr. Mythili Paladugu to treat varicose veins because they want to feel confident in their appearance, while others turn to us because they want to get rid of the pain and discomfort. Whatever your reason, here’s what you should know about getting laser ablation therapy.

When should I consider laser ablation therapy?

While varicose veins aren’t anything serious, sometimes people can experience pain or burning in the legs. If you are dealing with painful or swollen varicose veins then our Fort Worth, TX, vascular surgeon may recommend laser ablation therapy; however, patients who simply want to treat varicose veins for cosmetic reasons may also be a candidate for this treatment.

How does laser ablation therapy work?

This minor outpatient procedure is performed right here in our office and takes no more than an hour. Local anesthesia is applied to the area where the catheter will be placed. Once the numbing has taken effect, we will make a small incision where we will guide the catheter through the vein using ultrasound technology. A small laser will be guided into the catheter where it will heat up the vein so that it closes up and eventually collapses. The incision site is usually so small that most patients don’t require stitches.

Am I a candidate for laser ablation therapy?

In order to truly find out if laser ablation therapy is right for you, you will need to turn to our vascular surgeon for a consultation. We will not only evaluate and assess your veins but also going through your detailed medical history. In some cases, an ultrasound of your leg will need to be taken. Once your evaluation is complete, then we can determine whether you are ideal for treatment. If so, we will discuss the next steps including what you should and shouldn’t do prior to your procedure.

If you are embarrassed by your varicose veins and want to discover laser ablation therapy with our Fort Worth, TX, vascular surgeon Dr. Paladugu and his team, then call Texas Vascular and Vein Center today at (817) 332-8346 to schedule an evaluation.
